Biography Web Site Project
Reflections
a. Describe what you had to do in the assignment.
For this assignment, I had to create a website about someone I admire. The purpose of this website was to educate my peers and teacher on Christopher Reeve, and also show them why he is worthy of their admiration through presenting them with a summary of his life and accomplishments.
b. Describe the technology skills you had to use to complete this assignment.
In order to complete my website, I had to use Weebly for the first time and navigate through its features such as including text boxes, making banners, and tabs for my website. I also learned basic source code for the citations and reflections pages. A combination of these two tools allowed me to create an easily navigable website, that is well-organized.
c. Describe what you learned and accomplished by creating this piece of work.
Through this project, I learned more about Christopher Reeve, who is someone I had already admired. I was able to learn more about his accomplishments after the accident, such as how he made his directorial debut while confined to a wheelchair. I also learned more about his childhood, like how theater is what sparked his eventual interest in pursuing movies. I was able to make my very first website about one of my idols, and educated my peers and teacher on his extraordinary life. I showed my class why he is someone worth admiring, based on his accomplishments in spite of life-changing adversity. I feel that through my examples of his bravery during his brought on paralysis with his motivation to keep doing what he loved made my peers see him as a role model.
d. Explain what you did well in this assignment?
I think I did a good job organizing my website. All of the information is easy to find, and the website overall is easily navigable. I think it is also aesthetically pleasing to look at with the banners and Superman inspired color scheme. Although it was suggested to add more images, I do not feel that works best with the construction of my website. Firstly, Reeve was a modest, simple man. The basic images and simple blurbs of text really account for his personality, and I think he would appreciate the way I designed my website. Also, by opening each page with a banner of images corresponding to the following information, it allows my readers to really just focus on the information they are reading. They then, can reflect back on the images. I did not want people to get wrapped up in the images, and avoid the text. The banners make the website aesthetically pleasing, without taking away from information being presented, that is worthy of their full attention. I covered a lot about each section of his life, and made a strong argument for why he is someone that can be looked up to for his accomplishments in cinema, theater, health care, and as a father, husband, and man.
e. Explain what you would do differently to improve your work in this assignment?
One thing I would improve in my website would be to include more information on specific accomplishments within his own foundation, as well as the many organizations he was a part of. I think in doing that it could help to better depict his dedication to helping others and giving back to those around him. However, for the purpose of this website, I think those details would lose the attention of my peers, which is why I provided brief examples.
